OpenAI: Your New Sidekick

You’re a human in a world that’s accelerating faster than you’re designed to handle.

Need some help?

Let me introduce you to OpenAI, your new sidekick.

OpenAI offers a little bit of everything, as it is designed for businesses and individuals who are looking to use artificial intelligence for commercial or personal purposes.

OpenAI's API provides access to GPT-3 and Codex. GPT-3 can perform a wide variety of natural language tasks and Codex can translate natural language to code.

GPT-3 is the most powerful language model ever built. It’s a neural network machine learning model that is trained using internet data to generate any type of text. It requires a small amount of input text to generate large volumes of relevant and sophisticated machine-generated text.

GPT-3 is the successor of OpenAI’s earlier version named GPT-2, which was released in February 2019. The previous model was trained on 40 GBs of data from 8 million web pages and then asked to write text based on some prompts that were given to it. The result? A coherent and human-like text written by an algorithm! The new and improved GPT-3 is trained on more than 400 GBs of data from the internet, which is 10 times larger than its predecessor. And that is not all: the model contains 175 billion parameters compared to 1.5 billion parameters in the 2019 version of the algorithm.

GPT-3 only requires one example of input before being able to write a whole passage.

One of the strengths of GPT-3 is that it’s not focused on specific tasks like translating text or answering questions like other algorithms. It can do other things as well.

It can translate English into Spanish and back again, write songs in the style of famous musicians, tell stories based purely on prompts, create computer code from scratch just by being told the type of program you want it to write, answer math problems, and describe images and videos without ever seeing them before, among other things.

You can also chat with the AI and use it as a Google-like tool.

Another strength is that it provides consistent results across all kinds of writing styles.

GPT-3 can be used for things like writing articles or blog posts, creating websites or mobile apps without programming experience, answering questions similar to how a search engine does, and much more!

This is why OpenAI has become my sidekick. I write a ton of emails and proposals at work, as well as content for various websites.

You can check out OpenAI’s pricing for the different models here. They offer multiple models, each with different capabilities and price points. You pay for tokens used, which are pieces of words.

But my favorite part? OpenAI Playground. The OpenAI Playground is a great tool for training and testing your own AI models. You can also use the Playground to explore and experiment with pre-trained models provided by OpenAI.

I have OpenAI’s playground open on every device I own.

I’m hands on when it comes to writing. I like to write. But I often struggle to abstract the concepts and ideas floating around in my mind into words. Playground allows me to blurt it all out without worrying about the quality or cohesion of what I’m saying. Why? Because I have a variety of presets I filter my writing through.

Some of the presets I have saved include: ‘rewrite this and make it more persuasive’, ‘rewrite this with an emotional appeal’, and ‘simplify this for high school students’.

Here’s an example.

“I don't like the way this was handled. You could've communicated with me better, and before the mess went public”.

Then I ran it through this preset: Rewrite this and make it friendlier.

The result?

“I'm disappointed with how this was handled. I wish you would've communicated with me privately so we could have avoided this public mess”.

Sometimes I’ll run a few paragraphs through it at a time, prompting the model to rewrite it to make it more persuasive, or rewrite it to make it appeal to the senses.

And it’s affordable. Here’s a breakdown of my usage for Open AI’s Playground over a few month span - taking advantage of an $18 credit you get when opening a new account.

Helpful. Affordable. Practical.

Your new sidekick in the AI Revolution.

Enjoy.
